The Works under the 9km long Contract 9181C involves the design, construction, and completion of 6 underground stations, bored tunnels, and cut-and-cover tunnels forming the Downtown Line Stage 3. The stations (including two interchange stations) in this contract are designated as civil defence structures.

The twin bored tunnels have an internal diameter of 5.8m and overburden of between 14m to 52m.

Geology

The geology along the tunnel alignment generally consists of Singapore Old Alluvium and Kallang Formation. A localised area of Bukit Timah Granite Formation GIII (Rock) to GVI (Soil) will be encountered.

Downtown Line Stage 2 - Contract 919: Stations and Tunnels at Botanical Gardens and Stevens (Accredited Checking), Singapore

Contract 919 involves the construction of Stevens and Botanic Gardens stations, twin bored tunnels (internal diameter of 5.8m) and 2 cross passages. The length of the twin bored tunnels is approximately 1km, with an overburden between 14m to 32m. Both stations are constructed using the cut & cover method.

Geology

The site is situated in Bukit Timah Granite with overlaying Fill between 1m to 8m thick. Along the tunnel alignment, there are also localised Kallang Formation comprising of Fluvial Sand (F1), Fluvial Clay (F2) and Estuarine layer overlaying the Bukit Timah Granite.

Contract 916 involves the construction of a station at Beauty World, twin bored tunnels (internal diameter of 5.8m) and 2 cross passages. The length of the twin bored tunnels is approximately 1.1km, with an overburden between 16m to 24m.

The site is situated in Bukit Timah Granite with overlaying Fill between 2m to 5m thick and Kallang Formation (between 3.5m to 9.5m) comprising of Fluvial Sand (F1), Fluvial Clay (F2) and Estuarine layer.

Downtown Line Stage 2 - Contract 915: Design and Construction of Tunnels Between Stations at Beauty World and Hillview, Singapore

Contract 915 comprises of the construction of twin bored tunnels of internal diameter of 5.8m as well as a cut-and-cover tunnel box in the vicinity of Hume Avenue. The design also consists of two launch shafts, one at each end of the station. The length of the twin bored tunnels is approximately 2.3km.

Geology

The site is situated in Bukit Timah Granite with overlaying Fill between 1m to 8m thick. Along the tunnel alignment, there are also localised Kallang Formation comprising of Fluvial Sand (F1), Fluvial Clay (F2) and Estuarine layer overlaying the Bukit Timah Granite.

Circle Line - Contract 855: Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) for Mined Tunnels at Ayer Rajah Avenue, Singapore

The project involves the construction of 70m length of twin tunnels using NATM at Ayer Rajah Avenue. The tunnels undercross a four lane two way road and critical utilities such as high voltage electrical cables, gas pipes and telecommunication cables, with a minimum tunnel overburden of only 10m.

The entire length of the mined tunnels was divided into five sections. Pipe roofs that spanned a length of 21m with an overlapping of 7m were installed in each section. Side drift construction approach was done initially with a maximum width of 11.5m and height of 10m. Top heading, bench and invert construction approach was subsequently carried out with a maximum width of 11m and height of 8.5m. The excavation was supported by temporary shotcrete lining and steel arc girders.

Geology

The geology at the site consists of Jurong Formation residual soil underlain with Siltstone and Sandstone of varying weathering grades.

Geology

The site is generally located in Bukit Timah Granite Formation consisting of both residual soil and rock of various weathering grade, overlain by Estaurine and Fluvial clay and sand of the Kallang Formation, as well as fill material.

This project is part of the Klang Valley Mass Transit system, Jajaran Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line Package UG1. It involves the construction of the North Portal, Intervention Shaft and underground KL Sentral station, which will be connected to the existing KL Sentral Complex. The KL Sentral station is located at close proximity to Muzium Negara, which is a national monument.

Geology

The site is located in Kenny Hill Formation, consisting of meta sedimentary rock which is predominantly sandstone, shale and phyllite of varying weathering grades.

The geology along the tunnel alignment generally consists of Clayey Silt and Silty Sand.

Geology

The site is geologically located within the Gangetic Alluvial Plains. The ground condition generally consists of fine to medium sands, silts, and clays occasionally mixed with gravels and kankar.

Jurong Rock Cavern (Accredited Checking), Singapore

Jurong Rock Cavern is Southeast Asia’s first underground liquid hydrocarbon storage facility. The cavern system is located 130m below Jurong Island’s Banyan Basin. The first phase of the project involves the construction of 5 rock caverns and 8 kilometers of tunnels with 1.47 million cubic meters of underground hydrocarbon storage space. Caverns together with access and operation tunnels as well as water curtain galleries result in a total of approximately 3 million cubic meters of excavation.

Geology

The site is located in the Jurong Formation, which consists of a series of sedimentary rocks such as sand stone, mudstone, shale, tuff, conglomerate etc. The formation has been severely folded and faulted.

Underground Science City (Feasibility Study), Singapore

The Underground Science City (USC) is an extensive cavern system designed for “Data Centre”, “R&D IT” and R&D Bio-Tech/Life Sciences usage. The caverns are deep below the Kent Ridge Park, bounded by Science Park 1 and 2 for better synergy and connectivity with the existing R&D cluster in the Singapore Technology Corridor.

Geology

Cavern construction involves excavation within rocks of the Jurong Formation. The sedimentary rocks have been extensively folded into an anticline structure, resulting in the formation of various discontinuities (i.e. joints and faults). The main rock types include Sandstones, Conglomeratic Sandstones, Conglomerates, Siltstones, Tuffs and Limestones.

Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort – North Podium Excavation and Slopes, Singapore

The Integrated Resort Development at the bayfront promontory of Marina Bay comprises of a museum, theatres, casino, convention centre and hotel development. The development is divided into three areas, namely the South Podium, North Podium, and Hotel areas. The North Podium includes 4 basement levels and an under drainage level.

Geology

The ground comprises of about 10m thick of reclamation fill at the top, marine and fluvial deposits of the Kallang Formation in the middle, and Old AlluviumAat the bottom.

Punggol Reservoir – Dams, Gates, Dredging and Ancillary Works: Cofferdam and Slopes, Singapore

The Punggol Dam which is located at the mouth of the Punggol River is an integrated road dam, which forms part of the Punggol-Serangoon Reservoir Scheme. The dam connects mainland Singapore to Pulau Punggol Timor island. The dam consist of a sand-rock fill, as well as a gatehouse with a 4-channel spillway.

Geology

The site comprises of soft mud flat and soft soils of the Kallang Formation, underlain by Old Alluvium. At Pulau Punggol Timor side of the dam, there is a reclamation sand fill layer at the top 8 to 9 meters.

The sewers are likely to run through the residual soils of the Tengah, Ayear Chawan and Queenstown facies of the Jurong Formation, as well as alluvial member of the Kallang Formation.

Part of the pipeline undercrosses in close proximity to existing MRT viaduct foundations. Pipe flow cannot be interrupted and thus, flow diversion must be carried out under operational condition.

The geology along the pipeline alignment consists of Jurong Formation sedimentary rocks (Ayer Chawan and Queenstown Facies) with localised areas of Kallang Formation sediments.

The sub-surface condition at the site is generally in Jurong formation and the proposed pipeline alignment is likely to traverse across residual soil in sedimentary deposit.

Another 3000m run along Choa Chu Kang North 6 and Kranji Expressway by open trench, with connection works under Bukit Timah Expressway viaduct and Yew Tee MRT station first reserve.

Geology

The site generally consist of silty sand of the Kallang Formation overlaying granite of the Bukit Timah Formation.
